Tuesdays with Morrie

A book by a student dedicated to his professor. This book marries the materialistic gains of 21^st century with a giant packet of wisdom - shared by professor. Humor of professor (Mr.Morrie) is something worth appreciating. The subtle reality of life that Morrie puts will give you a different perspective in life. His words had echoed in the ears of Mitch(writer) and you will also feel the same when you will read it. Mr. Morrie had been very placid in the vicissitudes of his life, which will inspire you, because he never see the life in a way that we see. His moral and mental horizon was well beyond a normal human being. I was dumbfounded when I found that this story was based on real account. I won’t delve more but this book undoubtedly worth a read and with every other read you will find something more important. Also, I can say that by the time you will finish this book you will be mist-eyed, as you will understand the value of love. His best line that I liked – “If you know how to die, you will know how to live”.

 

A confederacy of dunces

A work that will light a spark of laughter in your belly and takes you into world of ‘fortuna’(you will understand when you will read it). An award winning work by John Kennedy Toole(posthumously) that will hold you till the very last page with its magnificent humor. You will be in tears when Ignatius(protagonist) is facing unemployment and quandary and at the same time you will be holding your belly out of laughter when he puts his emotion in words. I never imagined the intensity of this work and how one can ignite series laughter with mere words. As recommended, this work deserves a grand appreciation. A simple writer with extraordinary writing skills had given us various moments of giggling with profuse description of flatulence and eructation. The mischieves and satire of Ignatius are not just restricted to him rather you will feel it, the trouble and disgusting scenarios will be hated as well as loved by you. A tragicomedy, first for me, is a must read for you all (and you must) because when you are fed up of insecurities of 2020-21 then compare it with that of Ignatius’s and learn from him.

 

Shuggie Bain

A work that won 2020 booker prize, by Stuart Douglas, shows love between a drunk, stubborn, dapper and destitute woman (Agnes Bain) with his son (Shuggie Bain). It show the times of Glasgow when skies were covered with smoke and kids roam around on street empty stomach. Shuggie who was a son with no father had always been an admirer of his not-so-good mother. His sister and brother had left the home but shuggie was reluctant to do so because he thinks that his love will take-over the drinking habits of his mother. I was exclaimed to see that this book is debut of Mr.Douglas and is able to win a booker prize. The life of the writer was also the same as said in this book, which will give a profound impact on your heart. The vitriolic arguments of Agnes show the level of her drunkenness and her frustration. It also shows that when a drunk wants to be a sober, then all are in confederacy to keep him/her near the table. It is a kind of work which will give a profound impact in your heart by making you realize the conditions of those families(especially kids) whose members are into such state. Indeed it was an admirable, splendid and must read if you want to feel the pain(profound pain) of Shuggie and how at the end he lost his mother, after putting his heart and soul.
